 Sowena Group have been retained by a leading UK-based FMCG distribution business with a nationwide network of regional depots. The organisation operates in a fast-paced, high-volume environment supplying products across multiple sectors. With a strong operational footprint and continued growth, we are looking to strengthen our finance team with a commercially focused accountant who can partner closely with operational leadership.


The Role

 We are seeking a Commercial Accountant to support financial performance across four UK depots. This role combines strong financial analysis with business partnering, working closely with depot managers and operational teams to drive performance, improve margins, and support strategic decision-making.

This is a hybrid role with three days on-site and two days working from home, with occasional travel required to regional depot locations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the finance business partner for four regional depots across the UK
  • Produce and review monthly management accounts, highlighting key trends and performance drivers
  • Provide commercial analysis around sales, margins, and operational costs
  • Support depot managers with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning
  • Deliver clear financial reporting and KPI dashboards to operational stakeholders
  • Provide insight and challenge to drive improved financial performance
  • Analyse pricing, promotions, and customer profitability where required
  • Support the annual budgeting and periodic reforecasting processes
  • Ensure financial controls and governance are maintained across supported sites
  • Identify opportunities for cost efficiencies and operational improvements
  • Build strong relationships with depot leadership teams through regular interaction and occasional site visits


Skills and Experience

  • Qualified or part-qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA) or equivalent experience
  • Strong commercial finance or management accounting background
  • Experience partnering with operational stakeholders in a multi-site environment
  • Advanced Excel skills with strong analytical ability
  • Ability to present financial information clearly to non-finance colleagues
  • Experience within FMCG, wholesale, logistics, or distribution environments is advantageous
