Finance Manager / Financial Controller

Sowena Group have been retained by a Merseyside-based start up in the lending/financial services sector, in their search for a new Finance Manager/ Financial controller. 

This high growth SME is in a phase of rapid growth and has ambitious plans to scale. The SLT are looking to build a best-in-class team to support this journey with Finance at the heart of it. This role offers huge scope to develop, and a really varied range of experience that comes with joining a start-up. We are looking for an ambitious, proactive, Fully Qualified candidate who backs themselves to progress with this business.  

Responsibilities

• Own and manage the monthly P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow reporting.
• Develop and implement financial controls, policies, and processes to support scalable growth.
• Oversee month-end close, ensuring accuracy and timely reporting.
• Partner with leadership to provide commercial insight and financial analysis for decision-making.
• Manage external relationships with auditors, accountants, and banks.
• Build and maintain robust forecasting models and KPI dashboards.
• Build rapport with funders and be involved in running data rooms.
• Support the development of financial systems and infrastructure.
• Drive continuous improvement across the finance function.

Qualifications / Skills

• Fully Qualified accountant (ACA/ ACCA/ CIMA.)
• Previous experience in a financial services or lending business.
• Strong understanding of financial reporting, control environments, and cash management.
• Confident communicator with the ability to influence non-finance stakeholders.
• Self-starter with an entrepreneurial, solutions-focused attitude.

• Hybrid working model 3/2 split
• Happy to consider flexible/ condensed working hours
• Package between £55K-65K + performance related bonus

This role will suit a confident, self-starter who has a background in lending or financial services businesses and is looking for a role that offers flexibility and scope to grow. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is looking to work with a line manager that is happy to mentor and support where required, but is also more than happy for you to take the lead with the finance function.
