Job Description
As a key member of the finance leadership team, this role is responsible for shaping and executing the financial strategy across the business. The Financial Controller will lead the commercial finance function, providing insightful analysis and strategic support to senior management, driving performance improvements, and ensuring sound financial governance and compliance.
This role requires strong judgement and the ability to create innovative financial solutions based on sound business insight and professional expertise. The Financial Controller will play a pivotal role in influencing senior stakeholders, overcoming resistance to change, and driving adoption of improved financial practices and performance enhancements.
Responsibilities
- Lead, develop and motivate the commercial finance team to deliver exceptional financial and commercial support, including budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and action planning.
- Influence business performance and profitability by delivering insightful analysis, expert commentary, and data-driven recommendations to support strategic decision-making.
- Build and maintain a high-performing team culture through effective leadership, talent development, and succession planning.
- Oversee and support pricing and margin management processes to optimise profitability and reduce operational inefficiencies.
- Evaluate and approve new business proposals, considering profitability, credit risk, and operational feasibility.
- Manage and review overheads, ensuring spend aligns with business objectives and value creation.
- Oversee customer reconciliations and rebate processes, maintaining robust financial controls and ensuring audit readiness.
- Lead the budgeting and forecasting processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and alignment with business strategy.
- Identify and monitor business risks, maintaining comprehensive and up-to-date risk registers.
- Support ad-hoc projects, business transformation initiatives, and other strategic activities as required by the CFO or leadership team.
Qualifications/Skills
- Strong understanding of finance principles and cross-functional business operations.
- Ability to interpret complex financial data to deliver actionable insights.
- Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent) with at least 5 years of post-qualification experience.
- Advanced IT and financial systems proficiency.
- Proven experience leading and developing high-performing teams.
- Skilled in managing change and influencing senior stakeholders to adopt new approaches.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly to non-financial audiences.
- Confident and persuasive, capable of operating effectively across all levels of the business.
